This Privacy Policy explains how the Verde app handles your information. Verde is designed with privacy as a priority — most data never leaves your device.
Verde collects only the data needed to operate:
Verde does not collect, store, or transmit to our own servers:
AI Plant Identification (optional). When you use the plant identification feature, the photo you capture and a text prompt are sent to your chosen AI provider: Anthropic (Claude) — privacy.anthropic.com; OpenAI (GPT-4o) — openai.com/privacy; Google (Gemini) — policies.google.com/privacy. Data sent is limited to the photo and identification request. We have no control over how these providers handle data on their end.
Weather Services (optional). If you enable weather-based irrigation, your latitude and longitude are sent to Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com — open-source, no account required) or Apple WeatherKit (apple.com/legal/privacy), if selected.
HomeKit & Home Assistant. Commands to smart home devices are sent directly to your local HomeKit hub or Home Assistant server. No data passes through our servers.
All Verde data is stored locally on your device using iOS standard storage (UserDefaults and the Documents directory). Data is not backed up to any Verde-controlled cloud service. iCloud backup behaviour is governed by your iOS and iCloud settings.
You can delete individual plants (including their photos) from within the app. Uninstalling Verde removes all app data from your device.
Verde is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The effective date at the top will reflect the most recent revision. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance.
